Designer Toy Store and Gallery

Last time I was in Chicago (xmas break) my sister took me to this place called RotoFugi. It is pretty cool, it is a mix of a toystore and art gallery… the interesting thing is that the art is mainly toys, and pretty much all of it is for sale. I really happen to enjoy alternitive pieces of art and wanted pretty much everything in the store. Most items have a unique look to them and all are unique and most are “cute”. For example here is a picture of Wee Ninja:

How could you not want something like that on your desk?

I purchased something called “smorkin labbit” which is a little rabit, with stublly beard and a cigarrette? I do not know either, but I do like it. (see images here) I also Got a “trexi series 2 from FuriFuri (caution the site is all in flash and extremely un-usable!)

The store is located on Chicago Avenue and Damen, and has a logo that is Abe Lincoln with an Eye Patch. They have a web site which can be found here: RotoFugi.com You can also buy anything from the store online.

I guess the owner plays in a band or something, and they occasionally have gallery openings in the store. He also appears to be a nerd, and we had an interesting discussion on his love of the mac mini.

When I was there they had a display of some hand made stuffed animals which were pretty awesome. I would like to look further into the process of building protoypes and perhaps one day have my own line of toys…why the hell not?

If you happen to find yourself in Chicago with a bit of spare time and a desire for cool figures and toys check them out. Also check out their weird sticker campaign to get people to the site: I love the smell of vinyl…

Yes, I am a nerd, but I haven’t played in a band since junior high! (I wish!)

Thanks for the kind words. 🙂
