So I was busy working when I got a desperate IM from world famous SEO, Aaron Wall. It went something like this*:
Aaron: Hey buddy, how are you?
Trose: Kinda busy, can this wait 5
Aaron: no, i NEED you help (left the mispelling in for authenticity)
Trose: not again?
Aaron: I need links, desperately
Trose: Don’t you have enough already?
Aaron: Please, just one from werty.net, no condom.
Trose: Gross dude
Anyhow the article in question that he was demanding a link for was actually pretty good. At first I was a little worried by the shear length of a post…thinking it was just another one of his attempts to rank for every keyword known to man, but I read it, and kept reading.
Some of the choice ones were:
69. It is easy to take pictures of important events and tell narratives about why they are important. Pictures of (drunk?) “celebrities” in your industry make great link bait.
91. Instead of asking people what their name is, ask what their URL is. As soon as you get their URL ask if they have linked to your site yet and if not, why not.
99. Wear your URL on your t-shirt. Walk or drive your car while talking on a cell phone or reading a book. When you run into other people say “excuse you, jerk”.
I have been known to do #69 (tee hee), but many of the photos I have taken are too risky to put online and could probably cause some of these drunkards their jobs or family. I like #91 and think that may be a good way to meet women. #99, I have been known to make some promotional t-shirts, buttons and other items and let my jerk friends do what they wish with them. I once made about 5000 stickers and gave them to some punks… they decided to tag everything with them which got the police researching things a bit… if only the police had a blog.
They forgot one way of link building which is ripping someone else a new one on your blog or forum and then getting linked to from fans of the people you are ripping apart. Also if you are a real jerk you could tattoo your url on a baby, or spray paint your url over some other companies billboard.
Anyhow go there and read the link building article, bookmark, print it and practice it and it should help your site out. Credit goes to Andy Hagans as well as A Wall for the article.
